Cooperation with Fontijne Presses: New laboratory press for Brabender
Fontijne Presses is a laboratory press manufacturer offering equipment mainly used in universities and in the polymer, rubber and composites industries. The company, based in the Netherlands, is pleased about the good cooperation with Brabender. The idea was also well appreciated at Brabender: “Fontijne Presses is already very experienced with Brabender products. We enthusiastically agreed to the idea of placing the press in our laboratory”, says Simon Hill, Sales Engineer at Brabender. Visitors of the Brabender application laboratory can now produce plate-shaped samples of raw materials and compounds previously tested on Brabender equipment with this automated hydraulic laboratory press LabTop 300. The application lab is used by many customers to test plastics and rubber on a laboratory scale with Brabender equipment: “With the press, we now have an up-to-date press model in the laboratory that is frequently used for rubber and elastomer testing”, Hill adds.
Pressing rubber compounds
Laboratory presses are widely used for the preparation of polymer samples, such as PE, PP, PS, ABS and also for the preparation and vulcanization of rubber samples: “The press is used in our lab, for example, to press rubber compounds processed in the kneader into sheets and then stamp out test bars in rubber applications. But plastic can also be compressed, so special molds are used to directly press a test bar”, Hill explains.
The LabTop series is recommended for all demanding quality control and R&D applications where accuracy and consistency are prerequisites. These presses can easily get installed in any lab thanks to its small footprint and its 230V connection. Its ergonomic design and straightforward touchscreen interface are highly appreciated by lab technicians.
