Torque rheometers

Brabender torque rheometers are the universal, modular drive units for measuring mixer and extruder attachments. They allow various process engineering solutions to be used and modified cost-effectively and flexibly.

Thus, different tasks can be solved in the field of

  • Recipe development
  • Material testing
  • Incoming and outgoing goods inspection
  • Quality assurance during production
  • Process optimization
  • Production of laboratory scale samples

The following torque rheometers are available for the analyses:

Measuring and internal mixers

Brabender measuring mixers simulate processes such as mixing, kneading and mastication on a laboratory scale and test the processability and material properties of thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers, ceramic compounds, pigments and many other plastic and plasticizable substances.

With different mixing blade geometries, a wide variety of applications can be realized with these mixers. Among other properties, it is possible to analyze

  • Plasticizing behavior
  • Heat and shear stability
  • Shear stability under the influence of oxygen
  • Flow behavior as a function of temperature and shear
  • Influence of added additives and fillers
  • Flow-curing behavior
  • Liquid absorption

Various mixers with different volumes and blade geometries are available for a wide range of mixing applications.

Laboratory-scale extrusion

Brabender extruders can realistically simulate production processes on a laboratory scale. They enable reliable statements to be made even with small amounts of sample material.

Different die and screw geometries can be used to produce a wide range of extrudates with different shapes, from round strands to blown films.

Single- and twin-screw extruders in compact design (with integrated drive unit) or modular construction (drive unit with attachment) are available for this purpose. Supplemented by volumetric or gravimetric dosing systems as well as downstream equipment for conveying, cooling, take-off, winding and pelletizing of the extrudates, complete lab-scale extrusion lines can thus be configured for the tests.

The following extruders are available for extrusion trials:

Film quality analysis

Brabender’s optical analyzers can be used to examine various film quality criteria, including

  • Melt flow rate (MVR/MFR)
  • Inhomogeneities
  • Impurities
  • Transparency and gray value

The following products are available for film quality analysis:

Absorption tests

The Brabender Absorptometer “C” can be used to measure the change in consistency of powdery substances during the absorption of oil.

This enables the structure of the following materials, among others, to be described:

  • Carbon black
  • Silica
  • Limestone
  • Talc
  • Aluminum oxide

For the analysis of the absorption behavior of other liquids as well as plasticizers the Brabender measuring mixers are available.

Density and crosslink density

The Elatest is available for determining the density of rubber and non-vulcanized rubber compounds.

The TSSR-Meter is used to determine the crosslink density and the structure of elastomers via the relaxation behavior.

The following devices are available:

Moisture determination

Brabender offers various methods for determining the residual moisture of plastics and other materials:

  • Chemical reaction with calcium hydride according to DIN EN ISO 15512:2019 (Aquatrac-V)
  • Water-selective dew point measurement (Aquatrac Station)
  • Heat drying in moving air according to the principle of the drying oven method (MT-CA)

The following devices are available for moisture determination:
