Rheometric Measuring Die Heads

 

A precise description of the flow processes within polymer processing machines implies exact knowledge of the rheological characteristics of polymer melts, in particular of their viscosity behavior within a wide, practice-oriented range of shear rates.

 

The Brabender® capillary rheometer system, consisting of a laboratory extruder with a suitable drive unit, a rheometric capillary die head, and a high-precision melt pump covers a practice-oriented range of shear rates and allows reliable statements about the material behavior during different processing stages. The advantages as compared to conventional high-pressure capillary rheometers are evident:

 

• practice-oriented plastification under processing conditions

• continuous operation

• multifunctionality: processing and measuring

• All slot capillary dies are highly polished and have a special coating against corrosion and abrasion.

The program of measuring die heads is completed by several special measuring die heads:

 

• 2- and 3-stage slot capillary die heads

  for the determination of shear and elongational viscosity to

  assess the flow behavior of the melt

 

• Garvey die head (ASTM D 2230)

  special measuring die for testing elastomers

 

• Swelltest die head
